How does an idea become a play?
Every play begins with an idea—but getting that idea onto a stage takes writers, artists, problem-solvers, and a community willing to bring it to life.
Built By Young Artists’ invites participants ages 10–18 behind the scenes of creating original theatre. Led by local playwright Rena Baker and Western Reserve Playhouse’s Braelin Andrzejewski, this interactive workshop introduces young artists to the fundamentals of playwriting and theatrical production.
Participants will explore how writers create characters, develop conflict, structure scenes, and turn personal interests or community stories into material for the stage. They’ll also look beyond the script to consider the choices involved in assembling a creative team, collaborating with performers, working within a space and budget, and connecting a new work with an audience.
No previous writing or theatre experience is required. Participants do not need to arrive with a finished story—or even an idea. They only need curiosity and a willingness to create.
